Surviving as Miss Rodeo USA

People ask me all the time how I get by financially as Miss Rodeo USA.  Does The Association pay for anything or is everything my responsibility?  To answer that question; I get paid.  I feel blessed to work for an association that understands how hard it is financially to survive as a rodeo queen.  I wanted to set the record straight for those of you who are thinking about competing but don't understand how things work with the Miss Rodeo USA Association.  As Miss Rodeo USA I get paid $100 per working day (paid directly to me by the committee or association that booked me).  I also get an airline ticket or mileage to and from each event.  While I am attending the event I will be put up in a hotel or will stay at a host families and if the families are anything like the Huber's - You would only want to stay with host families.  Also, the committees are required to feed me while I am there.  The best part about this is the money goes directly to me to do with what I choose - Just like a real job!

Miss Rodeo USA Clinic

This past weekend was the Miss Rodeo USA Clinic held in Oklahoma City.  There were 15 talented young ladies that attended and a ton of observers. Friday was our hands on horsemanship portion of the clinic.  Thank you to Julie Hettich and Lynn Brady for taking their time to bring the horses for all of the girls.  They were perfect.  One of my favorite parts of the clinic was getting to visit with all of the former MRUSA girls who attended. (Amy Duvall 95' - Georganne Abdo 02' - Katie Woods 04' & Joanna Blackwell 05') It is so fun to hear all of their stories from their year.  On Saturday we did hair and make-up, modeling, impromptu, speeches and pretty much everything that queens do! Sunday I was honored to lead Oklahoma rodeo queens in the Centennial Parade in Downtown Oklahoma City.  The rain held off just long enough to finish the parade - Thank God! To complete the weekend I had the opportunity to eat at the famous Cattleman's in the stockyard with The Robert's family and Miss Marilyn Hardacre.  It was wonderful!

Home Sweet Home

I just got home from a week in California and I can honestly say that I am so happy to be home.  In Oklahoma that is!!!!  Last week I helped out at The Miss Rodeo California Pageant and it was so nice to see everyone again.  I was able to visit with Jim Sculatti at Broken Horn who is one of my favorite people. Oh and I did do a bunch of shopping too.  The girls were all so pretty and they ALL did an amazing job.  Congratulation to Maegan Ridley - Miss Rodeo Norco - for winning the title of Miss Rodeo California 2008.  I know that she will do an amazing job next year and will make all of us so proud.  I finally got to go home Friday night and was honored to be the Grand Marshall at Stagecoach Days in my hometown of Banning.  The parade was so fun and they had a PBR that followed that evening.  Thank you to Cotton Rosser who lent me his wonderful queen horse "Socks"!  I was only at home for a day before I headed back home to OK to get ready for the clinic next weekend.

Happy Trails!!!

Miss Rodeo California Pageant

This week I have been attending the Miss Rodeo California Pageant in San Dimas.  It has been so much fun being home and being able to see so many familiar faces.  Tomorrow all of the contestants, pageant officials and judges get to go on a tour of Broken Horn - One of my dearest sponsors and the largest western wear store west of the Mississippi.  Broken Horn has everything you could imagine and Jim Sculatti always gives an amazing tour.
